Niels Sievers
Niels Sievers´ subjects convey a proclivity for romantic and distant absentmindedness, which never completely loses itself in morbidity, but which is exaggerated and counteracted through a sometimes naïve, sometimes violent handling of paint. The focus of his works lies on nature.
In his pictures, he especially creates snapshots of an overwhelming, seemingly menacing atmosphere that is dominated by darkness and punctuated with glaringly incident rays of light. Abandoned snow houses built on unsteady ground, clumps of trees threatened with collapse, gloomy seascapes and the swift ride over deserted streets - all of these aspects belong to Sievers´ steadily recurring inventory that encrypts a foray in uncontrollable places, an oscillation between one?s own human vulnerability and juvenile recklessness.
