Wolfgang Rempfer
The main aspect of Wolfgang Rempfer´s work is the partly planning, partly playful dealing with rooms of all kinds. Human perception is mostly guided by the surrounded room and its function. Through the modification of the encountered room and the creation of new spatial structures, Rempfer interferes with familiar conceptions of space and elicits irritation from the observer.
He sets "tripping stones" by playing with thoughts and emotions that are connected to certain rooms and influenced by his spatial reinterpretations. With the aid of architectural models, the artist implements his ideas with unusual, sometimes extremely reframed imaginative spatial relations which are hardly viable in reality.
The models are always to be seen as independent artistic works that connect sculpture and installation. Apart from works that are very elaborate in technique and manufacturing, smaller objects like "boot" are made spontaneously and intuitively. Rempfer uses already available finds like cheese boxes made of sliver of which he creates poetically filigreed objects. This method is an exciting contrast to the model that are meticulously planned in terms of construction and statics.
